Matching Counting Bugs

It’s finally feeling like springtime, and we are knee deep in all things bugs and garden! I always love incorporating what is happening in our daily lives and putting it into a learning opportunity. My little guy and I have been working on counting, and using one-on-one correspondence (pointing to one thing at a time while counting). So, I created some counting bugs and made up a game. Whenever littles are struggling with learning something new, the BEST place to start, is always through play!

I printed and laminated the bug cards (so they would last longer, but not needed). I taped the numbered set in order on the wall with painters tape, then taped the dot set around the house for my guy to go find. Before hanging them up, we touched each dot (model this with them, if just starting), and then counted pointing to each number to find its match. Many times with littles, we adults have to take a step back, and realize they don’t know how to do things they have never been taught. Showing them and modeling the way to do things, is a way they will retain it and learn from you.
