Tiny fingerprints in the flour. A little extra mess on the counters. Chocolate chips mysteriously disappearing before they make it into the bowl. These are the moments I want to remember.
Sure, help from littles in the kitchen might seem more daunting and time consuming than we’d like in today’s busy world. But the lessons they are learning, the laughter, the helping hands, the taste-testing, and the simple joy of creating something together makes the cookies that much sweeter.
One day, my children won’t need a stool pulled up to the counter. They won’t ask to crack the eggs or sneak a spoonful of dough. But I hope they’ll remember the warmth of home, the smell of cookies in the oven, and the feeling of being welcome in the kitchen.
Some of my fondest memories growing up were making cookies with my grandma. The way she welcomed me in, put on an apron, and taught me everything she knew. And now I have the privilege of raising my own littles on these sweet memories and tasty treats. Sometimes the sweetest part of homemade isn’t what comes out of the oven—it’s the little people standing beside you while you make it.
I’ll be honest, these homemade cookies are soft, dense, chewy, and absolutely delicious, but what makes them truly special is the memory-making that happens while we make them. Also, you’ll have a tough time keeping them in the cookie jar, as they get gobbled up quick!

Links to supplies we love: As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
Mixing bowls: we have ones similar to these we got at Costco– love that they have lids and can interchange graders if needed!
Hand Mixer: I’ve tried mixing these cookies in the kitchen aid, and I prefer the old fashioned hand mixer–you get it mixed more thoroughly that way.
Cooking Sheets: I have had great success with these in the kitchen. I use the large one to bake about 12 cookies a batch.
Cooling Rack: I transfer my whole sheet of cookies (by quickly pulling the cookies on parchment sheet) on to the cooling racks, so they are ready sooner– we are very impatient when it comes to gobbling up these cookies!
I hope you give them a try! I know you’ll love them as much as we do!
